The answer is yes. Raw seeds contain a number  of mild natural toxins to protect them from predators, including:&lt;br /&gt;– Lectins, if these are absorbed into your blood they make cells clump together&lt;br /&gt;– Phytic acid, which binds to minerals in our food, making it harder to absorb them&lt;br /&gt;– Enzyme inhibitors, which partly deactivate our digestive juices and force our pancreas to work harder&lt;br /&gt;– Goitrogens, which are not good for our thyroid.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Cooking helps to break down some of  these toxins. For instance some poisonous lectins found in beans are  deactivated by fast-boiling the beans for ten minutes. Baking wholewheat  flour with yeast reduces phytic acid. Soaking or cooking raw grains  helps to reduce enzyme inhibitors. The Swiss never eat muesli without  soaking the grains in liquid for a few hours..&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;But by far the best way to deactivate  most seed toxins is to sprout the seeds. This not only reduces toxins  but makes the seeds much more nutritious.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;As seeds begin to germinate, enzymes  break the protein down into free amino acids, which are easy to absorb.  Lectins, phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors are reduced to much lower  levels. Starch is turned to sugar, oils are reduced, vitamin C is  created, and B vitamins rise. What does this mean? Sprouted seeds are an  excellent source of highly digestible protein, carbohydrate, vitamins  and minerals. Since many people today suffer from nutritional  deficiencies and bowel problems due to poor digestion, they are strongly  recommended to turn to sprouted grains and pulses rather than their  unsprouted counterparts. Experiments carried out on rats have shown a  healing effect on colitis.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;And here’s some more exciting news.  Research carried out at research centres has found that three-day-old  sprouts of broccoli and cauliflower seeds contain large amounts of a  substance known as sulforaphane, which protects against cancer. But for  fenugreek, pumpkin, celery seeds etc., it is not yet known whether  sprouting would enhance or perhaps reduce their therapeutic properties.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Sprouting methods&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Popular seeds for sprouting include green or brown lentils, mung beans,  radish and alfalfa seeds and chickpeas. Seeds intended for planting in  the garden may have been treated with chemicals, so for sprouting  purposes it is best to buy either organic seeds, or seeds intended for  human consumption. Be careful to wash organic seeds from garden  suppliers. They have been known to carry harmful bacteria.&lt;/div&gt;Put a handful of seeds in a jar, add  plenty of water, and leave to soak overnight. The next day tie a piece  of nylon from an old pair of pantyhose securely around the neck of the  jar and pour away the water through this material. Leave the seeds in a  warm place, and twice a day pour in more water to rinse them, then drain  again. But deep down inside we have a pretty good idea what needs to  be done and where we’ve made our mistakes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If we will just take what we already know and add to it a little study  time on good health practices we will be armed with everything needed  for assembling a customized plan that we can live with which will  produce weight loss and improved health.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is one tool (appliance) that has made healthy eating pleasurable  for me. In fact, I use it more than any other appliance in my kitchen.  That tool is a blender (more specifically a Vita-mix). The purpose of  this article is not to recommend a particular product (imagine that, I’m  not selling anything) but I do recommend getting the finest products  you can afford. Some of the low end versions of these products are junk.  You get what you pay for.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I also own a good juicer but I don’t use it nearly as much as the  blender. The primary reason is that the juicer pulls out a lot of the  fiber that is really needed in the diet. No doubt there are benefits to  both but the healthiest juicing will always be accomplished in blender. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tip: If you do invest in a juicer save the resulting pulp from your vegetable juices to use in making a base for your soups.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of my great loves is ice cream. I don’t know who invented ice cream  but this person deserves a special place in the history of mankind. Good  news. With a high quality blender you can have as much ice cream as you  want…whenever you want. Sometimes I even have ice cream for breakfast!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Homemade ice cream is so easy to make in your blender. I know right now  some Vita-mix owner is taking my name in vane since I dared to call a  Vita-mix a blender. Sure looks like one to me. Just super charged.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, here’s my favorite ice cream recipe and it is so incredibly easy to  make. First, dump 2 to 3 cups of frozen strawberries, one half banana,  and a half cup of your favorite light yogurt into your blender. Then  pour in a half cup of almond milk (or skim milk). For sweetener I use  Stevia and sometimes a little honey. Then just turn on the blender and  the magic begins.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Vita-mix has a super-fast setting that pulverizes the little seeds  in strawberries and produces ice cream that is super smooth and firm  just like high quality ice cream.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For variety use different kinds of fruit. Berry combinations and  tropical fruit combinations are particularly flavorful. With berry  combinations I like to add a little orange juice for added flavor and  eliminate the yogurt.&lt;br /&gt;I have also learned that homemade soups are flavorful. Vegetable soup is  my favorite and with the help of the blender you can whip up some  pretty impressive pureed soups.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Between the ice cream and the soup you have added not only flavor but  also nutritious fruits and vegetables. Then, snack on fresh fruit and  fresh salads and voila…you have taken on a healthy diet that will  definitely result in weight loss and better health.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Don’t count calories. Don’t take shots or pop pills. And don’t pay for  an expensive diet program. Among the  sixth graders, those who slept the least were the most likely to be  overweight, and among the third grade children, those who slept the  least were most likely to be overweight in sixth grade, regardless of  their BMI (body mass index, used for measuring obesity) in third grade. One in three American children and teens are  classified as either overweight or obese.&lt;span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"&gt;Here are some frightening  statistics about children (especially teens) and weight: &lt;/span&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; - The number of US teens that are overweight tripled from 1980 to 2004 from 5% to 17%. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; - US teens are more likely to be overweight or obese than their peers from other countries. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; - 47% of 11 year old girls thought they were overweight and were on or  thought they should be on a diet. The number of girls age 15 who thought  this way was 62% &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;  (Source: Papalia, Olds and Feldman, 2008) &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;  The consequences of these statistics: &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; - Overweight children ages 7-13 are at an increased risk of heart disease at age 25. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; - Children, aged 6 to 11 are twice as likely to have diabetes as children of normal weight. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; - Children who watch two to four hours of television are 2.5 times as  likely to develop high blood pressure over those who watch less. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;  (Source: Lippert, 2009) &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;  &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Healthy Food Needs Not Diets &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Before you start a diet for your child, it is important that you work  with the pediatrician. A child's needs for calories and nutrients are as  important as an adult's. Reducing calories too drastically can lead to  serious problems for the child's development not only physically, but  mentally as well. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; A child still needs to get the right amount of calories, but often needs  a tweak on where those calories are coming from. It is often a matter  of getting the child up and moving around more throughout the day as  well as limiting the time that is spent in front of the television and  the computer. Make sure that the child is still getting the right  amounts of fats, proteins and carbohydrates for his or her age group.  Also, make sure that the child is not obsessing about his or her weight  and resist doing the same. Enlist your child's help in choosing better  foods, including snacks, and have them help cook dinner. Remember, there  are no "bad" foods, and an occasional treat is not a bad thing, as long  as there is moderation and exercise. Eventually, most children will  have a growth spurt that will leave them a little taller so that the  weight they have is more evenly distributed. And finally, there are a number of benefits  from the various kinds of protein and protein supplements including  muscle building, repair and maintenance. The number of  teens who are vegetarians or vegans is fairly high, even among those who  are overweight, so if you are planning to suggest adding one of these,  make sure that you are choosing the right one for the teen. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Soy is a complete protein, meaning that it has all eight essential amino  acids that the body cannot make on its own. Soy and rice protein are  both appropriate for vegans and vegetarians. Whey protein is made from a  byproduct of cheese production and is not suitable for vegans. In children, there are nine essential amino acids: leucine,  isoleucine, valine, threonine, methione, phenylalanine, tryptophan,  lysine and histidine. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Plant proteins are not complete because they lack one or more of these  essential amino acids. The exception to this rule is soy protein, which  is complete. Opting for lower fat versions of either type of protein as  well as getting complex carbohydrates instead of simple carbs is better  for your entire family, not just the overweight child. Adolescent girls, as young as 13 years old, are begging for, and some are actually having, gastric surgeries to reduce their weight quickly. Some see bulimia or anorexia as their only solution.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;The biggest threat with childhood and teenage obesity is these children are much more likely to become obese adults. He did his job  well, but                not up to his own standards. He knew he could do better.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p align="left"&gt;He knew he could do better physically too.  When we                began slowly with a simple walking program, Jim blossomed  quickly. Jim didn't just want a better body, he wanted a better  life... and                with just a little guidance from me, adding exercise was  the single                catalyst that sparked a whole-life transformation. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p align="left"&gt;Jim was probably a lot like you. He had the  number                one excuse for not starting an exercise program… "I don't                have time." I told him, "There are lots of people who                have s full time job, have to get children to school or  practice                and still have time to exercise - I'm one of them! You  just have                to make it a priority, put it on your schedule and make it  happen."                I continued, "You find time to watch wheel of fortune  don't                you?" So get on your treadmill (we bought one for him) and                 walk while you watch!"&lt;/p&gt;                          &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" align="left"&gt;As we continued to saunter down the  waterfront, it                was your typical wet, drizzly, cloudy North-Pacific day,  but that                day was as bright as ever for Jim. Looking back on all the  changes                that had happened in his life, we started talking about  why more                people don't exercise and why everybody who doesn't needs  to start                today.Lose weight gain life is number one on most people's  lists!                You have to do some form of exercise to lose body fat.  It's a no                brainer. Reduce your calorie intake a little bit in  combination                with the exercise, and POOF! Say goodbye to body fat. &lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p align="left"&gt;Fitness is number two on most people's list.  Jim mentioned                how he was having serious trouble breathing and he knew he  had to                do something about it. For some people the moment of  realization                happens when they have to climb several flights of stairs  for the                first time in months or years, and they find themselves  gasping                for air when they finally make it to the top. &lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p align="left"&gt;Remember something. Fitness is not achieved  through                dieting. Fitness is achieved by exercising and moving your  body.                Being physically fit extends your life, reduces heart  disease and                cancer, increases your brain function and the list of  benefits could                go on for pages!&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" align="left"&gt;The idea of doing something you know will  make you                feel better is a challenge to some. Some seem intimidated  by it,                while others thrive on the challenge. If you find yourself  procrastinating,                or if you are intimidated by the whole exercise thing.  Remember                that success and achievement are like a big boulder.  Overcome the                inertia and set that thing rolling and very soon it's so  hard to                stop. Accept the challenge, yourself thrive on getting in  better                shape by setting goals and achieving them. Trust me, if  Jim and                dozens of my clients can do it, then so can you. &lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p align="left"&gt;The psychological improvements that can  happen to                you by starting even the simplest exercise program are  still astonishing                to me. I watch my clients lose some weight, and  immediately I see                their self esteem shoot up and I observe them start to  feel good                about their bodies for the first time ever. I notice them  coming                into the gym in tank tops confidently, smiling, when they  used to                stay covered up in baggy clothing. Soon, they begin to  blossom mentally                and emotionally. Yes, even spiritually. Exercise is good  for the                soul!&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" align="left"&gt;So I say, lets get to work, shall we? Don't  you want                to feel better physically as well as emotionally? Imagine  putting                on any swimsuit you want - even a skimpy one -and going  out to a                crowded beach or pool and feeling better about your body  than you                ever have before. Not only can it happen, it will happen,  but only                if you get moving!&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p align="left"&gt;I'm not sure if you've ever felt depressed  before.                Most of us have, but I'm almost certain that your mood has  felt                a little "down" at times. Did you know how dramatically                your mood can improve after an exercises session? Before  the workout                you may find your "down" mood causing you to think, 'I                don't feel like exercising.' But if you get moving in  spite of that,                you can feel like a new person afterwards. &lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p align="left"&gt;As my mentor Paul Chek says, "Exercise  should                be your drug of choice!" But it's not just the physical  benefits                - the endorphins and "good mood" chemicals you stirred                up - it's also the fact that you took action, and every  time you                take action, your self esteem rises and so does your mood  right                along with it. Emotion follows motion. Remember that. &lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p align="left"&gt;Even better, exercises reduces stress! Who  doesn't                feel at least a little stressed these days? The exact same  thing                is true about exercise for reducing stress as it is for  changing                your mood. So I say again - get moving! I call it, "The Fearless HUMP!" This is                the bump in the road that everyone hits at some stage in  their journey                and most people find difficult to pass. It's when you find  a little                excuse to waiver from your routine and you turn it into  something                bigger than it really is. If you're not careful, that's  when the                "boulder" may start rolling in the opposite direction.                What do you do? There's no trick to it - tough it out, be  fearless                and get over the hump! Find an environment that nurtures  your                goals. Find a workout partner near your age, ability and  motivational                level. If you like to workout on your own, great! They say it can do in 10 minutes                what you would&lt;br /&gt;            get from weight training for an hour. It was been  developed years                ago&lt;br /&gt;            from technology used by the Russian astronauts to stop  muscle wastage&lt;br /&gt;            when they were in space. Have you heard of this and do you  think                it&lt;br /&gt;            could do what it claims to do? Not that I can afford to  buy one                but I&lt;br /&gt;            might try a class if there is ever one this offered this  way.&lt;/p&gt;                          &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Answer:&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;After more than 11 years in the fitness industry, I have  seen so                many&lt;br /&gt;            exercise machines pop up out of nowhere, take their place  as the                hot&lt;br /&gt;            item in the exercise equipment marketplace, only to fizzle  out or                even&lt;br /&gt;            completely disappear in a few years, or in some cases,  just a few&lt;br /&gt;            months.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Many of these fitness machines promise you "maximum  fitness                with minimum&lt;br /&gt;            effort and time." Their sales pitches are based on the  premise                that&lt;br /&gt;            it's easy to get in shape if only you had the right  technology.                They&lt;br /&gt;            tell you that if you're not in shape it's not your fault -  you simply&lt;br /&gt;            didn't know about their hot new "revolutionary" machine.                All you have to&lt;br /&gt;            do is buy it and use it, and you can get as fit as you  want and                lose all&lt;br /&gt;            the weight that you want in 10 or 15 minutes.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;I'm here to tell you that after the many years of time,  effort                and&lt;br /&gt;            research that went into the development of my Firm And  Flatten Your                Abs&lt;br /&gt;            system, no where in the pages of my book will ever hear me  say that                it's&lt;br /&gt;            quick and easy or it only takes 15 minutes a day, 3 times a  week                to get&lt;br /&gt;            a fantastic body and lose weight gain life. Getting in top condition takes time,  effort and&lt;br /&gt;            discipline. In  Paul's Nutrition&lt;br /&gt;            and Lifestyle Internship Course, we learned many different  facts                about&lt;br /&gt;            on how food affects your mood, your body type, and your  metabolism.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;Eating the wrong foods can and does contribute to fat  gain. But                perhaps&lt;br /&gt;            even more important, we learned how important exercise and  movement&lt;br /&gt;            patterns are to the results we achieve in our fitness  programs.                This&lt;br /&gt;            training has given me the skills and wisdom to allow me to  very                quickly&lt;br /&gt;            come to logical (and usually correct) conclusions about  the latest&lt;br /&gt;            fitness equipment craze, even before all the evidence has  been laid                on&lt;br /&gt;            the table, which I gladly share with my clients and  readers.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;The latest rage in fitness equipment is the Power Plate.  The power                plate&lt;br /&gt;            is a device which, depending on which model you use, is  about the                size&lt;br /&gt;            of an upright scale. This device is being touted by some  in the&lt;br /&gt;            industry as the best fitness invention to ever hit the  market. The                hype&lt;br /&gt;            is overwhelming, and also quite convincing when users  include&lt;br /&gt;            celebrities like Madonna, athletes like Shaquille O'Neal  and even&lt;br /&gt;            professional sports teams.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;The plate vibrates at 30-90 times per second and the  makers promise                that&lt;br /&gt;            you can stand on it for 15 minutes a day, three days a  week and                lose&lt;br /&gt;            body fat, tighten muscles, and reduce your waist line. It  was&lt;br /&gt;            originally developed in Russia to help astronauts maintain  muscle                mass&lt;br /&gt;            and bone density while in space. In 1999, the modern  version of                the&lt;br /&gt;            Power Plate was developed by a Dutch Olympic trainer who  then marketed&lt;br /&gt;            the machine to health and fitness industry.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Dr. William Kramer, the renowned strength and  conditioning researcher,&lt;br /&gt;            said in a recent interview that "There might be something  there"                as the&lt;br /&gt;            vibration plate causes more activation due to the body  gently being&lt;br /&gt;            asked to stabilize using what we call the proprioceptive  mechanism                with&lt;br /&gt;            the golgi tendons to stimulate more muscle activity.  However, Kraemer&lt;br /&gt;            also said that "The application of right prescription is  little                unclear"&lt;br /&gt;            and "it is an emerging area with a lot of people making  hypothesis                and&lt;br /&gt;            guesses, so the jury is still out."&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;I can see some possible application for older people with  osteoporosis&lt;br /&gt;            and arthritis, but the claims that are being made are  stretching                the&lt;br /&gt;            truth behind the little data that is available so far.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;I find it somewhat intriguing how this piece of equipment  has made                it&lt;br /&gt;            into the mainstream. My guess is "marketing 101" and the                never-ending&lt;br /&gt;            quest for higher cash flow. This machine costs almost  $10,000 dollars!&lt;br /&gt;            Heck, if you want vibration, why not just jump up and down  on the                floor&lt;br /&gt;            - that's free! This Power Plate reminds me somewhat of the  "Body                Blade,"&lt;br /&gt;            Not to get on the bodyblade&lt;&gt;             &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Keep in mind, if you use one (very expensive) machine  like this,                you are&lt;br /&gt;            only going to get the benefits that this one machine  offers. If                you were&lt;br /&gt;            to use a vibration training machine, it should be coupled  with other&lt;br /&gt;            activities and exercises to balance your development and  improve                your&lt;br /&gt;            overall health. Relying on only one piece of equipment or  one mode                of&lt;br /&gt;            fitness is almost always a big mistake.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;I decided to do some of my own research, and while there  are a                few&lt;br /&gt;            papers just coming out as Dr. Kramer mentioned, there  really is                not much&lt;br /&gt;            solid science yet to back up the claims being made at this  point.                Some&lt;br /&gt;            studies are "encouraging", say the researchers, but they                are too&lt;br /&gt;            preliminary and have not been repeated over a long period  of time                to be&lt;br /&gt;            definitive. Other studies show no benefits at all.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;I spoke with a few fitness experts to get their thoughts  the viability&lt;br /&gt;            of the power plate. Ori Hofmekler, author of the popular  fitness                book&lt;br /&gt;            the "The Warrior Diet" says "the PowerPlate has minimal                application in&lt;br /&gt;            the real world. It's just a bunch of hype without solid  science                backing&lt;br /&gt;            up the claims."&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;According to Hofmekler, to achieve the fitness and fat  loss claims                being&lt;br /&gt;            made for this device, you have to eliminate poor food  choices, decrease&lt;br /&gt;            estrogen-based food products, and get your butt up and  move. Human&lt;br /&gt;            beings were designed to move. Sitting on a plate  "vibrating"                goes&lt;br /&gt;            against every human evolutionary development, not to  mention it                goes&lt;br /&gt;            against simple common sense.&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;I also asked internationally recognized fitness expert  Paul Chek,                from&lt;br /&gt;            the Chek Institute in Southern California, about vibration  training                and&lt;br /&gt;            he said, "There are some benefits to the power plate, but  from                what I&lt;br /&gt;            can see, they are transitory."&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;Paul even wrote a poem about the PowerPlate and I think  you will                get a&lt;br /&gt;            kick out of this:&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;The power plate,&lt;br /&gt;            will shake you,&lt;br /&gt;            Even your bones...&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;The power plate will do magic,&lt;br /&gt;            but so will sitting quietly,&lt;br /&gt;            Alone!&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;The power plate is a new idea,&lt;br /&gt;            but taking care of your "Self" isn't,&lt;br /&gt;            So, do you want a $9,000 vibrator,&lt;br /&gt;            Or, to your "Self"...&lt;br /&gt;            ...Can you be True?!&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;Power plates, counters, beepers, tweeters, horns,&lt;br /&gt;            Where is the laziness buzzer,&lt;br /&gt;            That seems to be so lazy...&lt;br /&gt;            Does your mirror warn?&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;You can pay to have a high speed jiggle,&lt;br /&gt;            Or you and KC can, Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake your Booty!&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;You can plug the power plate in and turn it on,&lt;br /&gt;            but will it keep you slim,&lt;br /&gt;            if you're always gone,Too many things to "DO"?&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;There's a great workout,&lt;br /&gt;            Wrapped all around you,&lt;br /&gt;            Work out your sore spots,&lt;br /&gt;            Melt down you fat too,&lt;br /&gt;            May I suggest some regularity,&lt;br /&gt;            as a change for you,&lt;br /&gt;            For even with a new power plate,&lt;br /&gt;            won't chase after you!&lt;/p&gt;             &lt;p&gt;Remember, we need movement to be healthy and our  instincts tell                us that,&lt;br /&gt;            but our impatience and emotions sometimes get the best of  us and                we perk&lt;br /&gt;            up whenever something new comes out promising us an easier  way with                less&lt;br /&gt;            time and effort involved. There are a lot of unknowns when  it comes                to&lt;br /&gt;            vibration training machines.
